LeBlanc Says High-Speed Rail Construction Could Begin in Four Years
While visiting Montreal, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc confirms that construction of the “Alto” high-speed rail line connecting Quebec City to Toronto could begin in four years. This new timeline was announced earlier today by Prime Minister Mark Carney. The 1,000-km project calls for trains traveling at 300 km/h, reducing travel time between Montreal and Toronto to approximately three hours. Minister LeBlanc also confirms that Ottawa will move forward with the Port of Montreal expansion project in Contrecœur before addressing questions from the media. Those projects are the expansion of LNG Canada’s production of liquefied natural gas in Kitimat, B.C.; The Darlington New Nuclear Project in Bowmanville, Ontario: The Contrecœur Terminal Container Project at the Port of Montreal; The McIlvenna Bay Foran Copper Mine Project in East-Central Saskatchewan; and the Red Chris Mine expansion in Northwest British Columbia.
