Citizenship and Immigration - June 7, 2022 : During the first half of the meeting, committee members hear from academics on Bill C-242, An Act to amend the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (temporary resident visas for parents and grandparents). Later, the committee shifts its focus to immigration application backlogs and processing delays during a panel discussion with legal experts.

Citizenship and Immigration - March 24, 2022: Immigration Minister Sean Fraser speaks to the committee about differential outcomes in Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) decisions. While briefing the committee on his department’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, he touches upon strategies already in place, including the non-discriminatory processing of applications, an anti-racism task force, and 12 departmental promises to make IRCC more equitable and diverse. Citizenship and Immigration - March 3, 2022: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser appears before the committee to discuss the latest supplementary estimates for his department. During the briefing, the minister informs the committee that the Liberal government will spend a significant portion of its funding on IRCC’s operational costs, including processing temporary resident visas for workers and the Canada?Quebec Accord on Immigration. Conservative MP Jasraj Singh Hallan also asks the minister about visa-free travel for Ukrainians and the delays and obstacles in acquiring visas for Afghans and Ukrainians. Also appearing are senior officials from Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada.

Citizenship and Immigration - February 15, 2022: Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser briefs the committee on processing delays for immigrant applications and backlogs caused by COVID-19. He also speaks about the Liberal government's mandate and the steps taken to reduce processing times while also elaborating on the challenges faced by the immigration system. Opposition MPs strongly criticize the minister for "lack of planning" in bringing Afghan refugees to Canada and demand "real transparency" from his department. NDP MP Jenny Kwan asks the government to expedite permanent resident visas and the bridging of work permits to qualified internationally educated and licenced nurses and other health-care professionals.
